Herrschaden troops support Prussia!

In this weekend's game the Direktorate of Herrschaden's troops made their first appearance. Monte Christoan mercenaries, light horse and a 1/2 battery lent their support to Frederick II's forces in attempting to consolidate his hold on Silesia. The game ended in a draw, night fall bringing an end to the game before the Austro-Hungarian and Russian forces could destroy the agressor's host.

Posted for posterity's sake are the photo's of the first battle in which the Herrschaden troops fought.

The Light Horse return to the fight.

Rizhskiy take on the enemy cavlry

It was a hard fought battle. The Russian Rizhskiy Horse Grenadiers covered themselves in glory, destroying the Prussian Billerbeck Hussars and mauling the Herrschaden Light Horse and Prussian von Zeithen Hussars before succumbing to superior numbers.

The failed Prussian assault on the town.

Soon the first photo's of the Neues Sudland International Assistance team will take the field.

  3. Sounds like a tough fight. Thanks for posting your report and pictures; it looks impressive.

Do you have any close ups of the Monte Cristan flags, please? (I ask particularly as I designed them... :-))

    Thanks.

    Cheers,

    David

  5. ...Herrschaden troops were posted to this area in the capacity as neutral observers, in minor force. Russian cavalry and Austrian Howitzers tilted the balance and thus the Direktor present - in this case Rupert de Perignon (on nicw white horse) - decided to support the Prussian side....this time...

  6. Thanks for the feedback, Gents. There's some more photo's at http://members.westnet.com.au/DalGavan/june2010.htm . David, I included the best closeup. The flags came out beautifully- but the camera flash tends to wash them out a bit. Craig's really chuffed with them and has ordered the figures so he can get some more troops onto the field.

Ignore Craig's excuses- the Direktorate is supplying mercenaries to take advantage of the warring parties!

  7. Thanks, Dal. That's a good batch of pictures - those largeish units look very chunky and have lots of presence on the battlefield.

As you say, flash does tend to wash out the colours on flags; I've noticed this elsewhere too.

I'm sure Craig will be madly painting more figures very soon!

    Cheers,

    David.

  8. ..mad's the bloody word Dave - it's a good thing in the Herrschaden army we have a saying: "You can have any colour gaiters you want, as long as they're black"....(thats an authorized saying BTW, Code ID: OIIIIIIIO)...

...No more white gaiters, or I might jump off a bridge...even though I can fly, I probably wont flap my wings...

    Hi Craig,

I'm sure black for gaiters is fine - it was pretty much standard by the SYW, except for some units for parades etc.. How long would white look white in the field, anyway? ;-)

Can you post a video of you flying - that would be very interesting! :-) If you can share the secret (for a price, of course) we could dispense with all those fuel guzzling and polluting aircraft too.

    Cheers,

    David
